Q&A with Digital Guru, Nkhensani Rikhotso

We instantly fell in love with this fun loving individual the minute she stepped foot into our co-working space. She fills a room with laughter and silliness and kicks ass in the Digital world. Nkhensani is the person in question: for starters, she’s the Head of Digital Design in the E-commerce department at Edcon, but also a guru in online strategy and design for her studio named Hello Kai Creative, we caught up with Khensi for a "serious" business Q&A and got to know her pretty well. She's hosting an awesome workshop on all things digital in our space on 13 May 2017.

1. Name: Nkhensani Rikhotso, most people call me Khensi

2. What do you do?
Well I'm a mommy by day and E-Commerce badass by night (Clark Kent style) Haha! Ok for real though for my day job I'm the Head of Digital Design in the E-commerce department at Edcon, but I also run an online strategy and design studio named Hello Kai Creative, what that means is that I help female entrepreneurs tailor their business for online, to either increase their passive income or make more online sales. So when you don't know what to do to when you want to launch a new product or service, or when you don't know how to convert your business to be more suitable for online. I help you with that.

3. What is your best childhood memory?
I was about 6 years old and my sister and I were friends with the 2 girls next door. We were playing outside at their house and it started raining, we were having so much fun, that we just continued playing in the rain. I  remember having so much fun, that I didn't care that I was wet or cold.

4. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
Hmmm, so many options. Is it completely absurd that my favorite place in the world is right here at home at Gods window in Mpumalanga. Why? Because it is the one place on earth that confirms for me that there definitely is a higher power out there that is bigger than all of us. Such beauty? Amazing!

5. What age do you feel right now and why?
I feel 45, love this question! I've always been told that I'm far beyond my years and 45 feels like I would be wiser and completely comfortable in my own skin and I feel like that now.

6. What do you feel most proud of?
Naturally I think it would be that being the Head of Digital Design at such a huge company at only the age of 25. But honestly it is has to be giving birth to Kai, I was in labour for a week, got induced, didn't get an epidural and had natural birth and gave birth to a beautiful, healthy 4kg baby boy.

7. If you could only keep 3 possessions, what would they be?
My favorite book - The alchemist by Paulo Coelho
My orchids - because they are my favorite flowers
My bed, because lord knows my hips can't take sleeping on the floor like I used to anymore

8. If you won the lottery, what would you do?
I would invest all of it and live off the interest

9. What was your most embarrassing moment?
I When I started dating Thabo, very early on in our relationship. I was having a very emotional day and I started crying, this was the first time I had ever cried in front of him and as he was coming closer to hug me, I green booger came out of my nose, I almost died with embarrassment. He started laughing and it made me laugh too and I felt so much better after that

10. If you were president, what is the first thing you would do?
Make private healthcare free for all

11. If you had a chance for a “do-over” in your business, what would you do differently?
I would have just focused on my passions vs what I thought would sell or what I saw other successful people doing. I wasted so much time doing that.

12. What is a business skill you'd like to learn and why?
Photography or videography, because I love to tell stories and that is where the digital landscape is moving. Storytelling is essential for any business in this day and age. People don't just want to know what you do, they want to how you do it and why you do it and what makes you tick, it's what sets each business apart.
